Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab is both an exercise and education program designed to provide a structured
and safe environment to work toward controlling cardiac and respiratory
problems. The primary goal is to enable participants to achieve their
optimal physical, psychological and social functioning.
Criteria for Admission: Cardiac Rehab is designed for patients with recent heart attack, open
heart surgery, stent placement and other cardiac conditions.
Pulmonary Rehab is designed for patients with
COPD,
emphysema,
pulmonary fibrosis and other
chronic lung diseases.
A referral by your physician is required before admission. Sessions last
approximately one hour, three times per week, for 12 -36 sessions, depending
on your progress.

Typical Programs Include:
- Tailored and monitored physical activity plan, overseen by physicians,
registered nurses and respiratory therapists.
- Education about your condition, treatment options and coping strategies.
- Symptom assessment and knowledge of when to seek medical treatment.
- Healthy behaviors such as smoking cessation, diet, nutrition and weight
management, which will reduce likelihood of future problems.
- Increases in your exercise will be based on your tolerance, heart rate,
oxygen level and blood pressure response.
Reimbursement: Most insurance plans will cover part of the cost if prescribed by your
physician. Please consult with your insurance carrier for specific questions.
