September is National Suicide Prevention Month

Each year, September is recognized as National Suicide Prevention Month—a time dedicated to raising awareness, spreading hope, and supporting those impacted by suicide. It is also a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health, and that resources are available right here in Perry County for those who may be struggling.

At Perry County Memorial Hospital (PCMH), we are committed to providing compassionate and accessible mental health care to our community.

Understanding Suicide Prevention

Suicide remains one of the leading causes of death in the United States, affecting people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life. But it is preventable. By talking openly, reducing stigma, and connecting people to care, we can save lives.

Signs that someone may be struggling include withdrawal from family or friends, changes in behavior, feelings of hopelessness, or talking about wanting to die. If you notice these warning signs in someone you care about, don’t wait—reach out and offer support.

Local Resources at PCMH

At PCMH, we want our community to know that help is available:

  • BehavioralHealthServices– Located within our Tell City Clinic and Spencer County Clinic, we offer outpatient mental health services to support children, teens, and adults. Our providers, including Nurse Practitioner Haley Kaufman and Amber Anderson, specialize in helping patients manage anxiety, depression, stress, and other mental health needs.
  • RenewedHorizonsGeriatric Psychiatry Unit – Opening soon, this dedicated service will provide inpatient mental health support for older adults, offering specialized care in a safe and supportive environment. Renewed Horizons will help address the unique mental health challenges faced by seniors, such as dementia, depression, and anxiety.

Our goal is to provide care close to home, so individuals and families can receive the support they need without traveling far.
